A Beautiful Meeting Point of Maharashtra and Karnataka

The Tamraparni and Ghataprabha River Confluence is one of the most beautiful hidden natural attractions near Daddi Village on the Maharashtra–Karnataka border. The Tamraparni River originates in the dense forests near Zambre Dam in Chandgad Taluka, Kolhapur district, Maharashtra, and flows through the lush valleys and villages of the Western Ghats before reaching Daddi. Here, it merges with the Ghataprabha River, which originates near Chaukul Village in the Amboli forests of Sindhudurg district, Maharashtra, before flowing into Karnataka as an important tributary of the Krishna River.

From this meeting point, the combined river continues its journey towards Hidkal Dam in Karnataka, carrying water that supports irrigation, agriculture, and local communities across the region. This unique confluence is not just the meeting of two rivers—it is a natural connection between the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka, symbolizing the shared lifeline of the Western Ghats.

Kitwad Waterfall - Chandgad's Hidden Monsoon Paradise

Kitwad Waterfalls is one of the most beautiful hidden monsoon destinations near the Maharashtra–Karnataka border, nestled in the lush green landscapes of Kitwad village of Chandgad Taluka in Kolhapur district, Maharashtra state, India.              Located just 22 km from Belagavi, this hidden gem offers breathtaking views of overflowing water, peaceful reservoirs, green mountains, and village landscapes. If you’re looking for an offbeat waterfall near Belagavi, Kolhapur, or Chandgad during the monsoon, Kitwad Waterfalls deserves a place on your travel list.

Speciality of Kitwad Waterfalls

Kitwad Waterfalls is famous for its unique combination of human creativity and nature’s beauty. During the monsoon season, the dam fills with rainwater, and the excess water flows over the spillway, creating a massive waterfall that looks completely natural. This destination beautifully showcases how irrigation infrastructure transforms into one of Maharashtra’s most scenic monsoon attractions.

Speciality of Kitwad Village

Kitwad is one of the most unique villages in the Western Ghats because it is beautifully situated between two dams — Kitwad Small Dam and Kitwad Big Dam. This rare geography makes the village a hidden paradise during the monsoon season. Kitwad Small Dam is the birthplace of the famous Kitwad Waterfalls, where overflowing rainwater from the dam’s spillway creates a stunning man-made waterfall that looks completely natural.  Kitwad Small Dam, completed in 2000, is an earthen dam approximately 270 metres long and 30.5 metres high, built to provide irrigation and water supply to nearby villages.

On the other side of the village, Kitwad Big Dam offers breathtaking panoramic views of a vast water reservoir surrounded by lush green hills, with rows of windmills standing gracefully on the distant mountaintops. The combination of peaceful village life, fertile farmlands, overflowing dams, waterfalls, reservoirs, and scenic hill landscapes makes Kitwad Village one of the most beautiful and offbeat monsoon destinations near Belagavi and Chandgad.

Visit only during daylight hours, wear footwear with good grip, and carry your own drinking water, snacks, and rain protection, as there are no restaurants or food stalls nearby. Local residents also advise visitors to be extra cautious, as tragic accidents have occurred here in the past due to strong water currents. Enjoy nature’s beauty, but never underestimate its power. According to local residents, In 2022, four girls reportedly lost their lives after falling near the waterfall and In 2024, a young boy drowned due to the strong current near the dam.
